Since I had never been to this part of the country when I first arrived at Palmar de Ocoa, I decided to drive up and down most of the seaside roads. When I scouted the B&Bs on the Internet I was actually kind of excited. Some of them looked really nice and since living here over the past decade and a half, I have covered a major portion of most areas of the DR. I was anticipating finding something new for not only myself but my subscribers. I must admit, I was quite disappointed to find out all these places were behind razor wire security walls averaging ten feet in height. In fact, every seaside villa was behind similar security, and you know what that means. Still, I drove around and after covering most major roads I determined this was not the place for me. I didn’t see any restaurants or places of interest that would entice me to hang around for the night, so it was time to move on. Since I was facing a six plus hour journey, I grabbed some chicken to go and began heading towards Sabana Larga. From there I began climbing to some hi altitude through the clouds overland roads and was heading towards Constanza. Wild how the temps went from near 100 to mid-40’s in under four hours’ time. Gotta love it. Until next time, Barry in DR.
